Nigeria’s national team, Super Eagles are chasing a whopping sum of $4.5m at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where very huge and stunning monetary figures are on offer in various new dimensions in the competition’s first 24-team expanded edition.
Nigeria will open their campaign 24 hours after the opening ceremony and first match of the continental contest, in which hosts, Egypt will take on Zimbabwe, two teams the Eagles had the pleasure of hosting in build-up friendlies, but Saturday’s clash with Burundi will be competitive.
The competitive nature of the Eagles’ start to their quest for glory at Egypt has further being underscored by revelations of the startling figures on offer, in terms of financial gains for each level of the race to the final on July 19 in Cairo, Egypt.
In the new monetary regime announced by Confederation of African Football (CAF), each country will get $475,000 as last placed in any of the groups, while third placed will go home early as well with $575,000.
Each team that qualifies for the quarter-finals at Egypt 2019 will get $800,000 as reward for their efforts, while fees for the semi-finalists will range from their strides in the competitions last four matches.
Fourth place will get $1.5m, third place goes home with $2m, while the runners-up receive $2.5m, and the champions on July 19 will smile with a princely sum of $4.5m (which is about N1.62bn).
