Middlesbrough of England returnee, Sammy Ameobi has been promised an active role with the English Championship side, as coach of the team, Neil Warnock says he will love to see the new arrival get into ‘positive forward positions’ with the squad.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, while also affirming that he has known Ameobi to be a dangerous player and thorn in the flesh of opposing defences, Warnock added that he personally approached the winger-cum-attacker about the prospects of moving to The Riverside.
The younger brother of former Super Eagles’ striker, Shola Ameobi eventually accepted Warnock’s offer, after he was released by Nottingham Forest at the end of the past season, such that the gaffer and player will now seek to have cordial relations in the lower division.
That is the next course of action, after Boro confirmed the signing for the Nigerian under-20 national team, Flying Eagles’ invitee, who scored a single goal and provided an assist in nine games for the same team during his first stint with them in the English Championship.
The 29-year-old Ameobi was unveiled following a successful physical examination at Rockliffe, as he goes about trying to make the best of his second spell with the club, eight years after he first played for them on loan from his boyhood club, Newcastle United.
Ameobi put pen to paper on a two-year contract, with the option of a further year, following which Warnock disclosed: “As soon as I became aware Sammy was available I let him know I wanted him.
“I’ve always thought he’s a danger. I’ll be looking to use that danger and have a system where I can get him in positive forward positions.
“We had a few good conversations. I thought it was important he could see what he could do for us, and what I could do for him.”
