Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has refuted any responsibility on his part over the invitation of 25 home-based players for the Nigerian national team’s upcoming international friendly against Mexico.
While a section of the media and teeming fans are excited that players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) eventually got a semblance of recognition with Sunday’s list of invitees, Rohr has sensationally denied the roster.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the Franco-German tactician went on to categorically state that he will not be in charge of the squad when they take on Mexico early next month in Los Angeles, USA.
This is apparently a confirmation of feelers indicating that former Eagles’ coach and current technical director of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Augustine Eguavoen compiled the roll call of 25 NPFL players for the July 3 game.
There is also a suggestion that the NFF aim to use the friendly LA Coliseum to prepare for the home-based players for the next Championship of African Nations (CHAN), which Rohr has always shied away from since his appointment as Eagles’ coach in 2016.
Rohr appears to be toeing the same line again, as he declared emphatically that he will not be in charge of the Eagles against El Tri, but refrained the development, thus: “I am only an adviser.”
