Rivers United captain Austin Festus is bullish about the team’s chances to win a first Nigeria Professional Football League title despite Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Kwara United, Megasportsarena.com reports.
The Port Harcourt side were pegged back after midfielder Nelson Esor gave them the lead in the third minute of the match in Ilorin.
Kwara United wrestled the game from their grasp after the break with Samad Kadiri and Jide Fatokun getting the goals and they missed the chance to establish a seven-point lead over second-placed Plateau United.
Festus adamant his team has moved on from the defeat and focused on upcoming matches to make their dream of a winning the league a reality.
“We are still in a good position on the table and we can’t dwell too much on what happened in Ilorin. The good thing for us is that Plateau United didn’t win either. The next game is our target now. Hopefully, we will win and improve on our advantage.
“Our target is to win the league this season. We have work so hard to get to this stage and we are still in a good position to achieve our objective.”
