FC Midtjylland of Denmark have given a first salvo of action to the Raphael Onyedika, who has been strongly tipped to step into the shoes of fellow-Nigerian midfielder, Frank Onyeka, who is heading to Brentford of England.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, although Onyeka’s move to the English Premier League newcomers is yet to be finalised, Midtjylland ae already preparing for life without him, and their technical eyes are now focused on Onyedika.
With that prospect in view, Onyedika made his competitive debut for Midtjylland in their 1-0 loss 2-1 to Odense Boldklub in their opening match of the new Danish Superliga season, as the 20-year-old is being looked up to play a key role in the heart of their midfield.
While Onyeka was not listed in The Wolves’ squad, as his transfer to Brentford is still on course, Onyedika started Friday evening’s game at MCH Arena, and he showed what he is capable of doing, as was first seen from him during the 2019/20 UEFA Youth League.
He helped Midtjylland reach the quarter-finals of that competition and the FC Ebedei of Shagamu product got a taste of first-team football the following season during a loan spell at second-tier side, FC Fredericia, where he made 28 appearances.
The physically strong and pacy defensive midfielder was named in Team of the Season by top Danish television channel, TV3, but his efforts could not save FCM from defeat on Friday, as OB secured all three points with a 91st minute goal by Joergen Skjelvik.
