Racing Genk of Belgium sensation, Paul Ebere Onuachu’s expected transfer to the English Premier League is bound to be lucrative for his former club, FC Mydttylland of Denmark, as they are legally qualified to share from the expected £26m fee, megasportsarena.com reports.
Following his superlative form and goals scoring exploits in only his second season at Genk, Midtjylland are set to benefit from Onuachu’s impending summer transfer, having inserted a sell-on clause into the deal that took him to Belgian club in August 2019.
This past campaign turned out to be the breakthrough campaign for the product of Young Stars of Lagos and FC Ebedie of Shagamu, as Onuachu won the Ebony Shoe for best African in the Jupiler League, while also going home with the highest goals scorer and most valuable player awards as well.
His credentials have already drawn concrete attention from the English Premier League trio of Leicester City, Brighton and West Ham United, which would surely excite Midtjylland, knowing that they stand to gain from a successful deal for the giant striker.
Of the lot, though, West Ham appear in pole position for a deal, as their tradition of signing Nigerian players is already tilting Onuachu towards The London Stadium, while the club’s coach, David Moyes is also playing a key role in the possibility of a deal materialising.
Moyes it was that signed former Super Eagles’ skipper, Joseph Yobo as his first deal on arrival at Everton several years back, while West Ham previously had Victor Obinna Nsofor and Victor Moses on their cards, with Angelo Obinze Ogbonna still a member of the current squad.
Details of the report out of London noted: “The Hammers’ interest in Onuachu, who fired 35 goals in just 41 matches at Racing Genk last term, is gathering pace, with manager David Moyes approving the signing of the prolific center forward.
“The Scottish football tactician is aware that the Super Eagles star is the target of several clubs and has informed the West Ham hierarchy to table an official bid to Racing Genk.
“Genk are resigned to losing Onuachu before the close of the summer transfer window but would only consider offers of around 30 million euros (approximately £26m).
“West Ham owner, David Sullivan also likes Onuachu but is skeptical about rubber-stamping the transfer due to one reason that is confidential.”
