Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu is on the summer transfer radar of Brighton & Hove Albion of England, who recently had his Super Eagles’ colleague, Leon Aderemi Balogun on their cards.
Although Balogun left The Seagulls under a storm, following a spate of injuries that limited his appearances to the barest in his second season with the team, Brighton are now keen on making Onuachu the next Nigerian player in their ranks.
Megasportsarena.com gathered on good authority that the English Premier League modest outfit are already exploring ways to sign Onuachu this summer, as The Seagulls have contacted his agent through an intermediary and talks have started over a deal.
However, it may not be a straightforward switch to The American Express Stadium for the tall striker, as their EPL rivals, West Ham United are also tracking the in-form Onuachu, who set tongues wagging with his burst of goals last season in Belgium, where he emerged top scorer and most valuable player as well as the best African in the past campaign.
A report by allnigeriasoccer.com adds: “The Super Eagles star is likely to leave Racing Genk this summer after putting himself in the shop window over the course of the 2020-2021 campaign, with 37 goals combined for club and country.
“Though Brighton managed to beat the drop last season, they struggled in attack, netting 40 goals, and only the teams that finished below them and Wolverhampton Wanderers scored fewer goals.
“Brighton could be in an advantageous position to sign the former FC Midtjylland man as they have a good relationship with Racing Genk, who sold Leandro Trossard to The Seagulls in the summer of 2019 (and) are demanding a fee in the region of 30 million euros for Onuachu.”
