Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu has been credited with a strong desire to make a transfer this summer to Arsenal of England, where he thinks his career would get the leap he so much desires, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Arsenal are not among a long list of clubs that are reportedly interested in signing him, following his top-scoring feat in the Belgian league this season, Onuachu has been quoted with a preference for The Gunners ahead of any other side.
A report by Voetbalbelgie revealed that the 26-year-old former player of Young Stars FC of Lagos, FC Ebedie of Shagamu and FC Midtjylland of Denmark is hoping to complete a transfer to Arsenal, who are facing uncertainty surrounding the futures of their current array of forwards.
Onuachu has enjoyed a sensational campaign in the Jupiler Pro League this term, with 30 goals from 34 appearances putting him atop the scorers’ chart but, with his contract at Genk not due to expire until the end of the 2023/24 season, his chances of moving on could be slim
Amazingly, though, a top shot at Genk recently promised that the club would allow Onuachu go should any of his suitors step forward with a tempting offer that meets their evaluation of the tall striker, whose prolific form has attracted interest from many top sides across Europe.
He hit another milestone on Friday with his 31st goal in the Belgian league, as he opened scoring in the 57th minute against Club Brugge in the championship playoffs, thereby helping Genk stay second on the log with 34 points after two rounds, but still five points behind the champions.
Onuachu has an overall total of 42 goals from 65 appearances for Genk, since his arrival from Midtjylland in the summer of 2019, and the Belgian outfit have tabled a transfer fee of €30m (£26m) for the striker, which could be beyond what Arsenal might be willing to pay for him.
British tabloid, The Sun added: “Genk are believed to be willing to sell their prized asset as it could be the best time to cash in. The Nigerian forward is contracted until 2024 and is believed to have a market value of around £15m.
“The Belgian club are hoping to cash in around £25m for his services after his sensational goalscoring form. Onuachu has attracted plenty of interest with his red-hot finishing since arriving in Belgium from Danish side Midtjylland, where he famously scored the winner against Manchester United.
“The 11-cap international has spoken previously of his love for the Gunners and how the North London club is his ‘dream destination.’ Onuachu is hoping to follow in the footsteps of icons Nwankwo Kanu and Emmanuel Adebayor by pulling on the red shirt.”
