SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen is bound to get instant reward for his burst of goals so far this season with his Italian Serie club, as Chelsea and Manchester City of England are both said to be keen on signing him next year, megasportsarena.com reports.
In what could become the greatest signing of any Nigerian player of all time, Osimhen is being linked with a switch to either of the top English Premier League clubs next summer, and Chelsea have already been rated in pole position for a deal.
This is sequel to astonishing information available from Stanford Bridge indicating that The Blues are keen on snatching the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and top scorer, who has already notched home six goals and one assist from six games in all competitions.
It could be another massive switch for the former Ultimate Strikers Academy of Lagos, VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, Sporting Charleroi of Belgium and Lille Metropole of France on-form attacker, who joined Napoli last summer is a record-breaking switch.
He is contracted to the Serie A outfit until the summer of 2025, but his performances in recent days have not gone unnoticed from other top European clubs, with both Chelsea and Man City now tipped to move for the 22-year-old.
This is despite the fact that Osimhen endured a shaky 2020/21 campaign at Napoli, mostly due to off-field issues, injuries and coronavirus but still managed 10 goals and three assists from 24 appearances for his debut season in Italy.
The report adds that Man City are keeping a close eye on Osimhen, as The Citizens’ coach, Pep Guardiola remains in the market for a new top striker, following the departure of Sergio Aguero and their failed attempt to lure Harry Kane away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
City are looking at potential alternatives if they are unable to get Kane and they have identified Osimhen as a target in the next transfer window, but they will need to spend big to get the Super Eagles’ star.
Incidentally, Osimhen, who joined Napoli from Lille in 2020 for around £63m and has found the net 16 times in 36 appearances across all competitions for the Naples-based side, had earlier been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United of England before moving to Italy.
The 10-cap Nigeria international, who recently scored both of Napoli’s goals in their 2-2 Europa League draw with Leicester City of England in the UEFA Europa League, has helped Napoli go top of the log in The Land of The Azurri, as he targets his first championship gong in Europe.
That could take his escalating market value even higher, according to Italian transfers expert and journalist, Ciro Venerato, who told Rai 2: “Osimhen is already worth triple, the Nigerian is liked by Chelsea, Real Madrid, PSG and Manchester City.”
