SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen is staying upbeat about his chances of turning into a major hit with the Italian Serie A club, as he disclosed that the enthusiasm he is seeing in the fans is as vibrant as it was when he first visited the city.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, although many commentators have started predicting hard days ahead of Osimhen, following his inability to rain goals with Napoli as he did during the past season at Lille Metropole of France, the Super Eagles’ youngster appears not to be bothered.
Rather than fret over his lack of goals, with only one so far after three matches in the Italian top-flight, the former VfL Wolfsburg of Germany and Sporting Charleroi of Belgium youngster believes support from the fans will still help him make his mark at San Paolo Stadium.
He took his mind back to the beginning, recalling how the fans were a big part of the reasons why he decided to join Napoli over the other clubs vying for his signature and the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer, who has been involved in five competitive matches for Napoli, but with a single goal and an assist to his name, insists better days are lying ahead of him.
He admitted that he earlier expressed fears about moving to Italy but backtracked after holding talks with Napoli’s coach, Gennaro Gattuso and the club’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, such that the product of Ultimate Strikers Football Academny of Ojota area of Lagos believes he will still come good at the club that made him the most expensive African-born player in history.
Osimhen told TLN’s Camila Gonzalez: “At first I was a bit skeptical about coming to Italy, not Napoli to be precise, but I saw that the interest they had in me was a genuine one and I spoke with the coach and president.
” When I came to Naples for the very first time I saw that everything they spoke about the city is amazing so I think it’s just easier for me to sign for this club. And of course before coming here the fans have been wonderful and the love I’ve been getting from them before I signed has been really massive.”
