Lille Metropole of France striker, Victor Osimhen has raised divided opinion over the recent cancellation of the French Ligue 1 season, even as interest is growing in his signature from Manchester United of England, megasportsarena.com reports.
Few hours after news emerged that Osimhen described the cancelled season in France as a crazy development, but the best decision that could be reached under the present setting caused by coronavirus he has now found additional and intensive interest coming his way from United.
This follows a report by ESPN that United dispatched scouts to watch Osimhen earlier this season and they were impressed with his displays, hence their decision to make a formal move for the 21-year-old forward, who has also attracted interest from several other clubs, after a tremendous debut campaign in Ligue 1, with 18 goals and six assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.
United’s gaffer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for ‘something different’ to Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, especially as doubt grows over a full contract with Odion Jude Ighalo, such that a keen eye is being fixed on Osimhen, whose progress has seen him linked with many top clubs and Lille believe they can break their record sale of £72m that Arsenal paid for Nicolas Pepe.
This comes at a point Osimhen admitted he misses football and feels strange that the season in France has been called off, but action returned to Germany last weekend, while Italy and England are bracing to get things going once again in the coming month.
That makes Osimhen post that seeing the French Ligue 1 called off makes everything unusual n the country he moved to only last summer, following his sparkling breakthrough with Sporting Charleroi of Belgium last term, and he was already on a roll this time out in Le Championnat.
The Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and top scorer might have gone on to set new mars had he been able to play more matches in the season with Lille, as he already had 13 goals to his name and was on fire for more.
With the season now completely called off, Osimhen admits it is a huge blow to his aspirations and targets, such that he cannot help but call t a strange scenario, yet, at the same time he conceded that the authorities thought things out deeply and properly before arriving at the shock decision that was announced two weeks ago.
Despite ending the campaign as Lille’s top scorer in all competitions, with 18 goals overall and six assists before the season was halted, Osimhen added that he envies players in the German Bundesliga, because they are now in the spotlight as the only major league in Europe that has resumed playing.
He, however, went on to stress that France’s Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) made the right decision to cancel the season in order to protect the health of all players, coaches, officials, fans and the media, which the Super Eagles’ youngster noted s a very crucial point to accept n terms of human health, above anything else.
Osimhen stated: “The season has been canceled, everyone is at home and it’s really crazy. I’m really jealous of the Bundesliga players who have taken over. But I think it was the best decision in France and staying safe. ”
