Galatasaray of Turkey striker, Henry Onyekuru has explained his choice of a very dramatic entry and elaborate zanku dance during his presentation at the end-of-season celebrations by the club was his own way of showing appreciation to them for giving him a glorious debut season in the Turkish Super Lig.
Onyekuru ended the season with another goal to his name last weekend, following which Galatasaray held a gala night to mark their latest Lig title, and Onyekuru was the cynosure of all eyes when he was called to show himself on the podium.
Onyekuru was all joy, ostensibly knowing he had contributed immensely to the club’s day of glory, and made the best of a great celebration party with Galatasaray as they paraded the Turkish Cup and Super Lig trophies at Turk Telekom Stadium in Istanbul on Saturday night.
Megasportsafena.com reports that the atmosphere was electrifying, as each player was called to the stage one after the other to hail their impact in the club’s success story, with the golden opportunity of showing their glee in any way they each wanted.
When it got to his turn, Onyekuru, who scored the goal that gave Gala a 2-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir in their decisive title clinching game the previous Sunday, stepped up to the stage in style.
He opted to replicate the dance steps he has now been accustomed to exhibiting right there on the pitch, after scoring for the club he joined last summer, and Onyekuru says it is to show the real Nigerian in him.
A report by Africa Facts Zone revealed that Onyekuru made his entrance with the Nigerian flag draped round his waist, then went on to reel out tailored steps of Zanku to Money by SOFT at the victory celebration.
The former KAS Eupen and RSC Anderlecht of Belgium star, who is on loan at Galatasatray from Everton of England, has now explained that he wanted to show the Nigerian flavour in giving thanks to his teammates, coaches and fans at Galatasaray the way it is done in his country.
Onyekuru stated: “One of the highlights of my career! Thanks to my teammates, coaches and the fans I love you all. Naija to the world!”
