Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu has been cast in doubt for an appearance with the Super Eagles in Thur5sday’s World Cup qualifier, after copping an injury in training, megasportsarena.com reports.
The injury, which the former Young Stars of Lagos, FC Ebedie of Shagamu and FC Mydttylland of Denmark ace got in the Eagles’ drills at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, comes at a point he is lamenting over his lack of a big-money transfer in the summer.
The focus for now is on Thursday’s Qatar 2022 qualifier against Central African Republic (CAR), but Onuachu cannot do but keep wondering what else he has to do to get a bigger club in Europe, after emerging top scorer in the Belgium top-flight league last season.
Onuachu, who fired 35 goals in all competitions, but he is still featuring in the Jupiler Pro League this term, told Belgian publication, Het Laatste Nieuws: “I can do nothing more to get a transfer.
“The football world is not always fair. I am still convinced that I could have made a nice transfer.
“In addition, many clubs are currently not having an easy time financially due to the Corona Pandemic.”
Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr cut a worried look, after Onuachu became the latest player hit by injury, as the player had his right ankle heavily bandaged in Tuesday training and could only watch the rest squad do the drills.
Despite admitting his worries, tohugh, the Franco-German tactician assured Nigerians that his team will win on Thursday, in order to consolidate their leadership of Group C.
Rohr, whose side will line out three days later against the same opponent on Sunday in Douala, Cameroon, retorted: “We have some injuries to key players.
“The team will still be able to do the job. We will do the work and prepare well. We are strong together and the quality in the team in the team will give us the result.”
