South African female soccer star, Janine Van Wyk has joined in raining accolades on Nigerian veteran, Onome Ebi, who is heading for a record fifth appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
With the Henan Huishang of China defender already named in Nigeria’s final squad to France 2019, Van Wyk, who is set to captain South Africa’s Banyana Banyana at the same competition, starting on June 7, noted that the Super Falcons’ veteran is a good example for all.
Megasportsarena.com can report that Ebi is set to become the first African to play in five global tournaments for the ladies and, at 36, could also become the oldest from Nigeria and the continent to star in the Female Mundial as well.
Ebi, who has been part of the Falcons’ set-up since making her debut in 2003, played at the 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 editions of the Women’s World Cup, but is most recently remembered as Nigeria’s joint-captain en route to record extending ninth African title last year in Ghana.
The 2018 Nigerian Female Footballer of The Year is now a four-time winner of the African Women’s Cup of Nations, looks set to reire after France 2019, ahead of which 32-year-old van Wyk (born 17 April 1987) eulogised that Ebi has already had an amazing career.
Van Wyk took to social media to celebrate Ebi, whose glittering career has see her play for Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa, Piteå, Djurgården and Sunnanå SK of Sweden, Düvenciler Lisesispor and Ataşehir Belediyespor of Turkey as well as FC Minsk of Belarus.
Writing on her verified account @Janinevanwyk5, the Banyana star retweeted: “What an amazing achievement @EBIONOME.
“It’s always been a privilege to compete against you. You may not score spectacular goals, dribble skillfully past players to be noticed or awarded.
“But those that follow women’s football know that u one of the best players in Africa.”
