Spain-based defender, Kenneth Omeruo has calmed the feeling of apprehension among Nigerian football fans ahead of the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifier away to Central African Republic, as he says he and his colleagues know what to expect in the game.
Megasportsarena.com reports that many Nigerian fans are skeptical of the Eagles’ chances of returning from the game with a point, considering they lost the first leg 1-0 at home on Thursday, but Omeruo insists it will be a different kettle of fish in Douala, Cameroon.
Although Central African Republic (CAR) are meant to play the game at home, it will be decided on neutral ground because Confederation of African Football (CAF) did not approve any venue in the opposing country to stage international matches.
That has given the Nigerian team an advantage of sort and the huge chance to get redemption on Sunday, ahead of which Omeruo, who signed for Chelsea of England in 2012 but never played a single competitive game for them, believes the Eagles will resurrect their World Cup hope.
The former ADO Den Haag of Holland, Middlesbrough of England as well as Kasimpasa and Alanyaspor of Turkey dark-skinned stopper added that the fire of disappointment will spur the three-time African champions to exert revenge against CAR on Sunday.
Omeruo submitted: “We are disappointed. We played and tried to create chances but they parked the bus. It’s not easy to break a team down like that.
“I understand the frustration of the fans. Before playing for the team I was a fan and understand that.
“We are disappointed not to give them result. It’s football and at the end of the day we want to go the World Cup – we must keep the focus.
“We know them now, they are fast, purposeful and organised – we know what to expect. The fear factor is not gone, we have fantastic players and sometimes it goes against you.”
