UK-based Nigerian boxer, Lawrence Okolie has received a date for his first title defence, and it will come on September 25, as part of the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s bout with Oleksandr Usyk.
Megasportsarena.com report sthat it will be a night of two Nigerian-born pugilists at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, as Okolie defends his WBO cruiserweight belt on the Joshua vs Usyk undercard.
Alongside Okolie, Callum Smith and Campbell Hatton will also be part of the bumper bill, tops of which will see Joshua defend his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles against Ukraine’s Usyk.
Before the main event, Okolie, who became champ with a crushing sixth round stoppage of Krzysztof Glowacki in March, will take the first defence of his WBO belt against mandatory challenger, Dilan Prasovic.
Okolie makes the first defence of his cruiserweight title against Prasovic, while Smith returns at light-heavyweight against Lenin Castillo and Hatton continues his pro career against Izan Dura.
Sky Sports’ head of boxing development, Adam Smith disclosed: “Joshua vs Usyk will be an unmissable evening of action.
“With Lawrence Okolie, Callum Smith and Campbell Hatton all featuring on a bumper bill at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“We’ve followed Lawrence Okolie’s career since the start and he’ll be determined to light up north London with an explosive defence of his WBO cruiserweight belt.
“AJ and Usyk then take centre stage as two Olympic gold medalists collide in the capital, in a hugely important world heavyweight title clash!”
