Manchester United of England striker, Odion Jude Ighalo has declared that he has gained more experience as a hitman since his arrival at Old Trafford on loan from Shanghai Shenhua of China, and he wants to continue playing by the rule that attackers are judged by the goals they score, megasportsarena.com reports.
He has already hit five goals in a total of nine games and only four starts since his arrival back in England in January and, while analysts have noted that two of his best attributes are his hold-up play and physicality, Ighalo pointed out that he keeps getting better under Ole Gonnar Solskjaer.
He went on to note that his playing style upfront is different from that of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, hence the relevance now enjoyed by the 31-year-old former Super Eagles’ top scorer, who previously played in England’s lower division from 2015 to 2016 and top-flight up till 2017 before he moved to Changchun Yatai of China and later on Shenhua.
However, the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations highest goals scorer, who has also previously played for Lyn Oslo of Norway, Udinese of Italy and Granada of Spain, says he does not want to slow down, especially as he has not scored in seven EPL matches since his return to England.
Ighalo told United Review: “I think I’ve gained more experience now and I push my game a little bit more than when I was at Watford. I think I’m even stronger now than I was then and have a bit more fighting ability to give, plus I have the experience to do what it takes on the field to score goals and to help the team.
“I feel I have improved from then to now. I can play with my back to goal, I can keep the ball. I’m strong so it’s different, for the different games, we play different patterns and with different strategies. I think I bring different things to the strikers we have.
“Anthony Martial is very skilful. He’s a direct striker. He likes to play with the ball at his feet. Rashy [Marcus Rashford] likes to run in behind. So, it’s good to have different types of striker in order to accomplish what you want.”
