An injury copped by FC Nantes of France winger, Moses Simon last weekend has been described a s heavy blow for the team, as they ended up settling for a 3-3 draw with Dijon, megasportsarena.com reports.
Nantes appeared cruising to another win in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday, until Simon bowed out after colliding with the opposing goalkeeper, as he scored his side’s second goal of the evening, but he could not complete the game at Stade Gaston Gerard.
While Dijon’s coach, Stephane Jobard was relieved to share points with their high-flying visitors, Nantes’ boss, Christian Gourcuff believes the result should have gone the other way round, but admitted his side struggled after Simon limped off late in the first half.
Simon, who has scored nine goals and provided eight assists across all competitions since his summer loan arrival from Levante of Spain, is now in a race against time to be fit enough for a piece of action for Nantes when they face FC Metz in their next league game this Saturday.
The Super Eagles star, who has previously played for SK Trencin of Slovakia and KAA Gent of Belgium, was forced off in the 43rd minute on Saturday and replaced by Abdoulaye Toure after he collided with the keeper while scoring his fifth league goal of the season for The Canaries.
In his reaction to the development, Gourcuff admitted the exit of Simon affected his side, but added that he hopes to get a favourable report about the lad’s fitness level from the medical team, as he declared: “It’s just a blow! His exit affected us. Regarding all injuries in the defensive sector, it’s incredible. I hope to have feedback this week.”
