Southampton of England youngster, Michael Obafemi has been cited as an attacker with huge attributes that could be of immense benefits to Blackburn Rovers, megasportsarena.com reports.
This is the verdict of Blackburn’s coach, Tony Mowbray, who confirmed that he is hugely interested in signing the Nigerian-born Ireland fringe international because of his targets for the season.
Rovers are still battling to return to the glory days they once enjoyed as the first team to win the English Premier League at inception in 1992, but their current lowly status in the second-tier of football has left them among the unfancied lot.
However, Mowbray is of a view that he can pull off a transfer coup for Obafemi, who he described as a lad after his heart and admitted that he is eager to sign the barging lad from Southampton.
This comes at a point reports indicate that Mowbray’s English Championship outfit are likely to lose Adam Armstrong to Southampton in the coming days, as The Saints and Rovers have an agreement for the striker, who reportedly accepted Obafemi’s club as his next team.
That has now set up Obafemi as the lad to replace Armstrong at Ewood Park, where Mowbray has come out with a down-to-earth confession that the Republic of Ireland fast-rising star is his preferred replacement.
Mowbray expatiated: “It’s something that’s been mooted, those sort of things become personal to the point the boy wants to make that move, his advisors have to see it as an opportunity.
“If it’s one he sees as a good chance for him to play more regular football at a level he sees himself doing similar things to Adam and build his reputation.
“It’s something we’re exploring but I won’t sit here and say that anything is happening, we will see in the next couple of days if anything materialises.
“I have watched him for the last three months. I was aware of him making his debut, he made quite a bit of noise a couple of years ago.
“I have studied him a lot recently and I see similarities with Adam, he’s mobile, fast, can score, he’s a young boy but we use attributes to help the team play in a certain way.
“He has the attributes that will help our team but it’s not something we should be saying is a done deal as I’ve not personally spoken to the player so let’s see what the next few days bring.
“Until this deal goes through, the men in suits will do the numbers and then I’ll found out what the scope is.”
