Liverpool Windfall After Taiwo Awoniyi’s Nottingham Forest Move

Liverpool’s transfer budget has been slightly boosted as they are set to receive a fee from Union Berlin after they sold striker Taiwo Awoniyi to Nottingham Forest, reports Megasportsarena.com.

The Reds are known for their net spend, and consistently manage to balance the books while bringing in the best talent. But they will now receive an extra £1.75m after Nottingham Forest signed Taiwo Awoniyi, who used to play for Klopp’s side.

The Nigerian was brought to Liverpool in the summer of 2015, and a fee of £400,000 was paid to the Imperial Soccer Academy. But Awoniyi failed to make an appearance for Liverpool, and after multiple loan spells he was eventually sold to Union Berlin in 2021.

Berlin paid £6.5m to Liverpool last summer, and the Reds negotiated a sell-on clause of 10 percent in any future deals. But they probably weren’t expected a pay-out this quickly.

After a breakthrough season in Berlin, scoring 15 Bundesliga goals, Nottingham Forest have made him their record signing as they experience life back in the Premier League.

Forest have paid £17.5m for the striker, meaning that Liverpool will receive £1.75m from the deal. It may be a small fee in todays market, but it’s a sum that could easily be put to good use.

Forest have returned to the Premier League for the first time since 1999, and securing a top striker is essential if they want to remain in the top division. And it’s a great opportunity for Awoniyi to prove himself, after being sent out on loan seven times before the age of 24.
