Kenneth Omeruo Remains In Doubt For Next Friday’s Clash With Ghana

CD Leganes of Spain defender, Kenneth Omeruo remains in doubt for an outing with the Super Eagles in next Friday’s World Cup qualification play-off away to the Black Stars of Ghana, megasportsarena.com reports.

This is sequel to his recent battle with injury and absence from Leganes’ matchday squads since February, thereby raising questions about his fitness level heading into the clash at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Ghana.

Omeruo partnered William Troost-Ekong at the heart of Nigeria’s defence during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, but his place in next week’s game could be taken over by Alanyaspor of Turkey utility player, Chidozie Awaziem.

While Glasgow Rangers of Scotland stopper, Leon Balogun is back in contention and should get to pair Troost-Ekong in central defence against Ghana, Awaziem could be formally included on the roster, as he is currently the only central defender named in the standby list of invitees.

That could mark another blow for Omeruo, who got his fifth yellow card of the season against Real Zaragoza on February 11 and was suspended for the next game versus Amorebieta.

Although that setback appears almost forgotten, latest reports out of The Land of The Armada indicate that Omeruo is nursing an adductor issue, which has raised fresh doubt about his availability for international duty.

It is already debatable whether he would be able to recover in time before the international break next weekend, as he has not been listed by Leganes for their last three Segunda Liga 2 matches.

Having missed games versus against Girona, Mirandés and Ibiza, a thick cloud of doubt lingers over the chances of Omeruo being available for the upcoming away and home crunch clashes with Ghana.
