Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho has declared that he is targeting more goals this season with The Foxes, hence his determination to keep working hard, megasportsarena.com reports.
Speaking against the backdrop of his decisive penalty kick goal that gave Leicester the Community Shield at the expense of his former club, Manchester City last weekend, ‘Kelz’ acknowledged that he must not rest on his oars all through the season.
He, however, went on to admit that he will not be able to achieve anything without the full and unflinching support of his teammates, hence his verdict that they will all have to work together to make the club successful.
With that in mind, the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and most valuable player added that he is not in competition with Patson Daka, James Maddison and Jamie Vardy for a starting shirt or for the highest number of goals in the team.
The product of Taye Football Academy of Oweri, who started his professional career on loan at Columbus Crew of USA, admitted it was sheer delight helping the 2016 English Premier League champions get another trophy to their cabinet.
It was another milestone evening for Kelechi, as he got off the bench for Brendan Rodgers’ team with just over 10 minutes on the clock and made an immediate impact, scoring from the penalty spot after drawing a foul from Nathan Ake inside the box.
The goal was Iheanacho’s 40th for Leicester and helped The Foxes begin the 2021/22 season on a victorious note, but he stressed that all attacking players in the squad are equally important.
Iheanacho submitted: “We’re not in a battle in our team. Everybody is important. We need everybody to get through this season. There are a lot of competitions, so we need everyone.
“Patson will be important to the squad. Me as well Vards, Madders; everyone is important in the squad.
“We are together as a team and as a family. I’ll keep working hard and at the end of the season, we’ll see what happens.”
