Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho is in doubt for a role in the Super Eagles’ squad for Sunday’s reverse fixture against Central African Republic (CAR), as he bowed out of Thursday’s first leg with injury.
The UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup most valuable player went to ground in his first real impact during the Eagles’ 1-0 loss at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, as he fell on the turf and immediately signaled to be replaced.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the setback came after Iheanacho sent in a curling shot that came close to ending up in the back of the net in the 34th minute and he eventually played through the pain barrier before he was replaced at half time.
Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has now admitted that he may not be able to call on Iheanacho for Sunday’s reverse fixture in Douala, Cameroon, while Leicester City might also not be lucky to have him back in time for their match in the English Premier League.
That would be a huge blow for Iheanacho, who has played all Leicester’s matches so far this season, scoring a goal and providing an assist, but Rohr admitted that he is sweating on the star’s fitness ahead of the trip to Cameroon for Sunday’s matchday four clash.
Rohr confessed: “I don’t know if Kelechi is able to play, he had a knock. Then we have other players who are tired.
“They tried, they ran a lot, they were fighting like always but this defeat is giving the recovery more difficult.
“We have to recover and to prepare. The match will be at 2pm on Sunday, and (we have) to go there and win the match.”
