Super Eagles technical adviser Jose Peseiro has reiterated his desire to win next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire with the team, Megasportsarena.com reports.

The Portuguese made this known at a ceremony in Abuja, where the NFF formally presented him to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare.

“I came here for one goal; I want to win the next AFCON for my fantastic players and for Nigerians. I am confident because I believe in this team, I believe in the quality and the number of good players.

I have followed Nigeria’s history in football from the 1994 and other successful teams and I want to bring back that joy again.” He said.

The 62 year old appreciated the Sports Ministry and the NFF for the opportunity to work with Nigeria, while also pledging to work his socks off to ensure success in the job.

“Nigeria is top 5 when it comes to football in Africa. I want to say appreciate the minister and the Football Federation for this opportunity to lead the national team. I will work round the clock to ensure we achieve as much success as possible and the journey starts now.”

Peseiro officially started his reign as the Eagles boss with back to back losses in international friendly matches played against Mexico (2-1) and Ecuador (1-0) in the United States of America.

Peseiro makes his competitive debut in the Nigerian dugout on Thursday when Nigeria will take on the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, before travelling to Marrakech to square up with Sao Tomé and Príncipe on Tuesday, 13th June, 2022.
