SC Paderborn of Germany left-back, Jamilu Collins has given thanks to God for making his club’s promotion to the top-flight German Bundesliga possible, even as they placed second on the final table last weekend.
Despite losing 3-1 away to Dynamo Dresden on Sunday, Collins and his teammates picked a promotion ticket on goals difference ahead of Union Berlin, who settled for the play-off round, while FC Cologne finished top with 63 points, six ahead of the other two.
Collins, who megasportsarena.com learnt played all 90 minutes of Sunday’s game and the previous weekend’s 5-1 spanking of SV Hamburg as well, said he is also thankful to his teammates and coaches for making the promotion bid successful.
That meant the 24-year-old defender featured in all of Paderborn’s 34 league matches, for which he is equally happy being part of the squad that took them back to the German Bundesliga after four years’ absence.
While affirming that he is now turning attention fully on the Africa Cup of Nations, ahead of which eh will join the Super Eagles’ camp in Asaba on June 2nd, the product of Abuja Football College Academy said he is proud with the promotion spot he was able to achieve with his club.
Collins told AOIFootball.com: “I’m extremely happy and proud of myself and my teammates that we came this far.
“This is the result of our hard work and God gave us the promotion so we thank him for everything.
“I have gained promotional already with my club so I want to do well with Nigeria also at the Nations Cup.
“Now I have to focus more on my country and the Nations Cup. I have to continue to work hard to ensure I live up to my dreams.”
