Arsenal of England attacker, Alex Iwobi has declared that his side is not in competition with London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, over which of them will be first to win a European club title this season, megasportsarena.com reports.
With Arsenal heading into the Europa League final on Wednesday, just three days before Spurs play Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final as well, there has been talk about The Gunners’ desperation to get the diadem first, but Iwobi says that is not the case.
While admitting that Arsenal surely want to win the Europa League, at the expense of another London rival, Chelsea, next week, Iwobi stressed that they are not thinking of what Spurs will do in the UCL on June 1.
Iwobi acknowledged that he knows all about the rivalry between both North London rivals, but the Super Eagles’ star insisted that, rather than openly back Liverpool to beat Spurs Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, The Gunners are focusing only on their own final in Azerbaijan.
He stressed that he and his teammates are preparing to face Chelsea in Baku next week and they want to win, not because of Tottenham, but because it will guarantee them a spot in next term’s Champions League.
Iwobi told Sky Sports: ”We’re not trying to focus on Tottenham to be fair. No, we’re not trying to look at them.
“They’ve done well to be fair, I have to give it to them, but we want to focus on ourselves and bring back the trophy for us.”
