Nigeria’s new arrival at Vaxjo of Sweden, Ini Umotong has set her sight on getting a spot in the club’s starting 11 for her second match with the team, following the substitute role she played on her debut, which came few days after her transfer to the Swedish Damallsvenskan outfit.
Umotong’s performance as a second half sub at the weekend helped her new team keep a hold on ninth spot in the Damallsvenskan standings, but she is now hoping to start and do better this Saturday, when they play away to Eskilstuna United.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that the former Brighton & Hove Albion Ladies of England barging attacker played a key turnaround role in last Sunday’s match against Djurgården, as she was called off the bench at a point her side needed to break the deadlock.
Umotong then entered the fray in the 57th minute wearing jersey number 23 and had a foot in the only goal of the match, which was scored by Signe Holt Andersen, who converted a penalty kick in the 76th minute to take her tally to three goals in two games.
The next target is now a starting spot for Umotong, who was a British citizen born in Nigeria, as she aims to do better than when she rained a plethora of goals during her time at Oxford United and Portsmouth of England, but ended her three-year spell with Brighton at the expiration of her contract in June, then joined Vaxjo on an initial 18-month deal.
