Cercle Brugge of Belgium attacker, Ike Ugbo may end up missing out on a deal that could see him replace in-form Paul Ebere Onuachu as his club’s Belgian Jupiler League rivals, Racing Genk, due to growing interest from other countries across Europe, megasportsarena.com reports.
While initial news heading into the summer transfer window had been that Ugbo, who is on loan from Chelsea of England was on course to take Onuachu’s place at Genk, latest reports out of Belgium indicate that his destination has been narrowed down to three clubs in England and Germany.
Genk are in the market for a striker to replace Onuachu, who is bound to cash in on his most prolific season so far in Europe, and Ugbo, who thrilled in the past campaign with Cercle Brugge, is reportedly high on their wishlist having caught the eye in last season’s Belgian First Division A.
Fulham of England also had interest in the 22-year-old Ugbo, along with AS Monaco of France, FC Rostov and CSKA Moscow of Russia as well as Bologna of Italy, but they have all drop out of the race for the dark-skinned attacker.
Consequently, the in-form lad, who has seen previous loan spells at Barnsley, Milton Keynes Dons and Scunthorpe United of England as well as Roda JC Kerkrade of Holland, is now looking at openings elsewhere, as he prepares to bid farewell to Chelsea.
He is bound to finally leave his boyhood club, 14 years after setting out at Stamford Bridge as a schoolboy, as he is not lacking suitors after a breakout season that saw him score 17 goals in 34 matches across all competitions at Cercle Brugge.
With Ogbu having ended the season as Chelsea’s top scoring loanee, he is now attracting keen attention from Watford of England, Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany and Genk, which have been rated as the final three teams left in the race to sign the former England U17 international, who has already expressed an intent to switch national team allegiance to Nigeria.
