Leicester City duo of Kelechi ‘Kelz’ Iheanacho and Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi again fell short with The Foxes on the last day of the season, as a 4-2 loss at home against Tottenham Hotspur knocked them out of a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Ndidi and Iheanacho fell short with their club on the same evening Alex Iwobi returned to action with Everton in the English Premier League, but he could not save his side from slumping against new champions, Manchester City.
While Iwobi fell 2-1 as a second half substitute against Man City, Iheanacho and Ndidi could not make the best of their starting roles for Leicester, whose gamely effort again ended in abject disappointment on the last day of the season for the second campaign running.
Needing a victory and hoping at least one of Chelsea or Liverpool drop points to secure a berth in the UCL, The Foxes went out full throttle, with ‘Kelz’ and Ndidi both lasting full duration 90 minutes at King Power Stadium, but they were unable to help their side get the desired result.
Two goals from Iheanacho’s strike partner, Jamie Vardy were also not enough, as a brace from Gareth Bale, one added by Harry Kane and an own goal by Kasper Schmeichel ensured Spurs clinched all three points in the encounter.
It is the second consecutive season in which The Foxes miss out on a place in the UCL spot on the last day of action in the EPL, which also marked a long-awaited return for Iwobi, but his side fell 5-0, on an evening Sergio Aguero signed off from the Premier League in perfect style.
Iwobi could only watch in agony, as Aguero scored twice after entering the game at Etihad Stadium as a substitute and the new champions romped to a massive win over Everton, whose European dreams were ended with the heavy defeat .
The moment every City fan wanted came in the 65th minute when Aguero, who will leave after 10 years at the club, replaced Riyad Mahrez, and it took him just six minutes to get on the scoresheet with a smart finish past Jordan Pickford.
He struck again five minutes later with a brilliant header, and he had a few more chances to add to his 260 City career goals, but he had to make do with a double as he ended his EPL career in fairy-tale style.
It was a disappointing end to the season for Iwobi and his pals at Everton, as their European dreams were dashed by the big defeat and Carlo Ancelotti’s side finish in a lowly 10th on the final standings in England’s top-flight league.
