Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho will be all out to enact another milestone of goals in the English Premier League this Thursday, ahead of which he has received strong words of advice from his father, megasportsarena.com reports.
Heading into the clash with West Bromwich Albion at King Power Stadium, the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and most valuable player has gained a massive boost from the wise words of Mr James Iheanacho, who urged his son to stay put at his current base.
The game itself will accord ‘Kels’ an opportunity to set a new personal record for goals in a single EPL season, as his winner against Southampton last weekend took him to a new mark across all competitions, by surpassing 14 he netted for Manchester City in 2015/16.
Should ‘Seniorman’ score against West Brom on Thursday night, he will take his tally to nine goals for the current season, which would surpass his feat during his first full campaign with Man City’s main team, and he equaled the feat when he netted in the 92nd minute of a 3-2 loss to West Ham United on April 11.
The 24-year-old has now scored seven goals in his last five Premier League matches for Leicester, as many as he had in his previous 63 appearances in the competition, with all coming in away ties, except his hat-trick against Sheffield United.
Iheanacho’s return to top form has already attracted transfer speculation round him, heading into the summer window, but the in-form Super Eagles’ lad’s dad urged him to stay put at King Power Stadium.
The 24-year-old Iheanacho was named Premier League’s Player of the Month for March 2021, while missing out on the EPL’s Goal of the Month diadem, following which he has been linked with offers from Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
Additional reports hinted that Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea have targeted Iheanacho with the futures of Edinson Cavani, Alexandre Lacazette and Tammy Abraham respectively up in the air, but the player’s dad says he should stick with Leicester, where he has been on fire since the start of March, scoring 10 goals in seven outings across all competitions.
Iheanacho Snr told allnigeriasoccer.com : “I know he has signed a new contract with Leicester City. If he’s doing well at Leicester, what is the need of looking for another club.
“He should remain with Leicester as he is doing good there. There’s no need joining a new club when Leicester are happy with him, let him stay there. What is the secret about? There is no secret behind his form.
“Football is in his blood. I know during my days how I used to score goals, so we thank God for that. Kelechi will score more goals before the end of the season.”
