The fear of coronavirus has spread to Nigeria’s under-17 national team, as all players invited to open the Golden Eaglets’ camp in Abuja this weekend were directed to arrive with results from COVID-19 tests, megasportsarena.com reports.
Eaglets’ new coach, Fatai Folorunsho Amoo (Arsenal) had penciled 50 players to commence training and screening with the cadet squad in Abuja, before relocating to Ilorin at the start of next week, but one of the requirements to get a place in the squad is now the health issue.
This is sequel to a directive by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that all the invited players will have to report at FIFA Goal Project in Abuja with their COVID-19 test results, even as the Eaglets’ camp was eventually confirmed to open after several postponements.
A report by SCORENigeria added: “Officials informed that the squad will shift base to Ilorin, Kwara State, where they will be expected to step up their preparation for next month’s U17 AFCON zonal qualifiers in Benin Republic. The five-time world champions are drawn against Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire in the zonal qualifiers, which kick off on December 8.”
