New arrival at Sheffield Wednesday of England, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has disclosed that he is aiming to get a long-awaited breakthrough into the limelight of football from the recent transfer that took him away from Manchester City, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although it means he will no longer enjoy the glitter and prestige of the English Premier League setting he had during his time in the youth team of Man City, Fisayo says he is eagerly looking forward to life in the lower division.
He will now aim to hit the ground running from the word go in the English Championship when the next season kicks off, as he wants to make his mark with The Owls and prove that he was not accorded the opportunities he deserves during his days with Pep Guardiola’s side.
The 19-year-old Nigerian-born midfielder, who becomes The Owls’ first signing this summer, had been with The Citizens from the age of eight, rising through the club’s ranks alongside Phil Foden, but he was unable to break into Guardiola’s first team when his coevals made the leap.
Consequently, that has necessitated his move to Hillsborough Stadium, where he is expected to continue his growth in football and the youngster, who has a glowing reputation as a dynamic box-to-box midfielder, is now setting personal targets he hopes to achieve with Garry Monk’s team, as they eye a place in the English elite division next term.
Dele-Bashiru told swfc.co.uk: “I’m honoured to sign for Sheffield Wednesday and I’m excited to be here. I’m at an age now where I want to be playing first-team football and I am confident it will fall into place for me here.
“I know there are other players in the same position but competition for places is a positive. My game is about power, strength and pace, I like to go box-to-box and I like taking on a shot too. The manager has shown a desire to bring me to the club and that means a lot. He has a good CV and I’m sure this is the right platform for me at this stage of my career.”
Incidentally, Nigerian-born defender, Dominic Iorfa Jnr was on Thursday named Player of the Year at Sheffield Wednesday, after the 25-year-old former England youth international played 45 matches, provided two assists, scored two goals, completed 89 tackles and made 150 successful clearances.
Iorfa moved to Sheffield from Wolverhampton Wanderers on 31 January 2019 got the official confirmation of his prize via The Owls’ social media handle, which announced that he had emerged their best overall player for the 2019/20 campaign.
