Super Eagles’ stand-in captain, Ikechukwu Ezenwa has promised that he and other home-based players invited to the national team’s camp will make their teeming fans and over 200 million Nigerians proud with their performances against Mexico on July 3, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although many Nigerians are skeptical of the ability of the domestic league players to get a good result against Mexico, who are ranked in the world top-20 by global soccer governing body, FIFA, Ezenwa is of a view that they will hold their own in the upcoming game.
The fixture is billed for LA Coliseum in Los Angeles, USA, ahead of which the invites from various clubs in Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) commenced training on Wednesday in Abuja, and Ezenwa believes they will be up to the task when the chips come down.
The Canada 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup revelation, who is now with Heartland of Owerri, after stints with Enyimba of Aba and Katsina United, added during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos that he is ready to play a leading role and motivate the other players as the oldest invitee in the Eagles’ camp.
Ezenwa stated: “It’s good to be with everybody in camp. We are all settling down fast and now we can concentrate on training. I am already trying to encourage my colleagues to make the best of this opportunity.
“We have to make over 200 million people happy, because we are playing for our country. It is different from when we play for our clubs, which only for the state. For the national team it is for both the state and over 200 million Nigerians.
“That is what we are here to do and we are all ready to justify our invitations to the national team’s camp. We are getting ready for the task ahead of us.”
