Getafe of Spain midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo was in 90 minutes of action for his club on Friday, but his efforts could not save his side from losing away to Granada, who had Ramon Azeez on their bench for the whole duration of the game, megasportsarena.com reports.
While Azeez marked the entire minutes of the match warming Granada’s bench, Etebo and Cameroonian star, Allan Nyom featured prominently in Getafe’s 2-1 slump at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.
It was a huge setback for Etebo, as he and his colleagues in Jose Bordalas’ squad failed to rise to the occasion against an opponent that had only won one of their previous four games before the pandemic and set out to clinch all three points from Friday’s game.
Etebo and Nyom were in the starting lineup for the Coliseum Alfonso Perez outfit, partnering Marc Cucurella and David Timor Copovi in midfield, as the visitors started on a brilliant note when Copovi opened the scoring with only 20 minutes into the encounter after he was set up by Cucurella.
Etebo made timely tackles and deliver solid defensive showings in an effort to ensure his side kept their lead and clinch victory in the encounter but Azeez’s team leveled in the 70th minute through Carlos Fernandez after benefitting from a sumptuous pass from Darwin Machis.
With 11 minutes left to play, Fernandez completed his brace for Diego Martínez’s side, to deny the visitors a chance of sharing the spoils, much to the disdain of Etebo, who joined Getafe in January on loan from Stoke City of England.
The Warri Wolves of Delta State star, who was playing his eighth game of the year, created a goal scoring opportunity that his teammate could not convert in the 49th minute then got into the referee’s bad book for the matchday 28 fixture away to Azeez’s side, who romped back from a goal down to clinch victory.
He first went unpunished for an elbow on Granada’s Carlos Fernandez five minutes on the clock but was then booked in the 61st minute, after he clashed heads with Granada’s Yangel Herrera when both players went up contending for an aerial ball.
Etebo has now played eight times since his arrival, with another full duration flow from the club’s first match after the coronavirus break, but Nyom was replaced by Senegal’s Amath Ndiaye in the 84th minute, while Azeez watched from the bench, as his side secured all three points.
