Eguavoen Reveals Startling Details About Emmanuel Dennis’ Withdrawal

2

Super Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen has revealed startling details about the shock withdrawal by Watford of England attacker, Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis from Nigeria’s squad to this month’s Africa Cup of Nations, megasportsarena.com reports.

In addition to earlier reported complaints by The Hornets’ coach, Claudio Ranieri that Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) sent the player’s invitation letter late, Eguavoen further disclosed that the club’s top brass put pressure on the player to opt out.

Eguavoen went on to reveal that Dennis, who is his club’s leading scorer with eight goals and five assists, initially declared his availability for the impending AFCON, but later soft-pedaled after disclosing that Watford threatened him if he went ahead to participate at the continental soccer showpiece.

The Eagles’ interim handler stressed that he had no choice but to replace Dennis in his AFCON 2021 squad after Watford hung on to a technicality on the player’s invitation, but everyone knew it was basically because they need the former Zorya of Ukraine, Club Brugge of Belgium and FC Cologne of Germany hitman in their battles to avoid relegation from the English Premier League.

Eguavoen concluded: “Dennis said he wants to come, but his club are threatening him. We have to play with what we have.

“The club said they won’t allow Dennis to go. Dennis also told me that his club are doing everything humanly possible for him not to be at the AFCON. I can’t force it.”
