Queens Park Rangers of England midfielder, Eberechi Eze is attracting summer transfer interest from West Ham United and Crystal Palace, as both London-based English Premier League clubs aim to outdo each other in the race for the in-form Nigerian-born dazzler, megasportsarena.com reports.
The 22-year-old Eze, who scored in a 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday, has been in tremendous form this season, with his large burst of goals and energetic creative play for QPR setting tongues wagging, while also setting him up for a clash of national team interests between Nigeria and England.
The latest tussle over Eze is now bound to be from two top clubs that are based in the same city where he is currently plying his trade with Rangers, as British tabloid, Daily Mail disclosed that the youngster has been watched by both Palace and West Ham.
However, Palace appear to have an upper hand in the chase for Eze, as they are better placed in financial terms and current form, while West Ham battled against relegation for the better part of this season and, considering that they have a limited budget, The Hammers will need to sell at least one key player in order to fund a credible move for the English Championship’s rave of the moment.
Although West Ham’s coach, David Moyes is a huge admirer of the buzzing midfielder, who he knows would offer The Hammers more creativity they desperately need, he may not be able to contest successfully for the 19-year-old Eze, whose current deal with The Rs runs out in 2021.
After thrilling at Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this season with 13 goals and eight assists in the second division, Eze won three Player of the Year awards at Rangers’ end of season gala but the other London-based clubs’ interests could mean a summer exit for the dreadlocks wearing lad.
This outgoing campaign has been Eze’s most successful season as a professional footballer, in terms of goals, assists and general play, with a total of 21 strikes spread across 45 matches, all of which saw the attacking midfielder scoop QPR’s awards for Sportito Supporters’ Player of the Year, Ray Jones Players’ Player of the Year and Junior Hoops Player of the Year.
Dramatically, another Nigerian-born dazzler, Bright Osayi-Samuel finished second behind Eze in the Supporters Player of the Year vote, while the youngster being linked with Club Brugge of Belgium won two awards – Kiyan Prince Goal of the Season for his strike against Birmingham City and Daphne Biggs Supporters’ Young Player of the Year award, which he also won last season.
This season, Osayi-Samuel has recorded 36 appearances in the Championship, with five goals and eight assists but, while he and Eze are both under contract with The Rs until the end of next season, the two revelations have been linked with summer moves elsewhere in the coming days, due to their brilliant performances with the club that Taye Ismaila Taiwo also played for.
