Eagles’ Camp Opens In Abuja With Thirteen Players, Ahead Of Ghana Clash

1

The Super Eagles’ camp opened Monday in Abuja with a total of thirteen players present at dusk time, leaving the technical crew and backroom staff optimistic of a full house on Tuesday ahead of their World Cup play-off versus Ghana.

Although reports emerged earlier on that a couple of the lads had been given up till Tuesday night as deadline before reporting for international duty, an aura of enthusiasm pervaded the camp early Monday.

The last invitees to land before nightfall were  Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, Shehu Abdullahi, captain Ahmed Musa, Oghenekaro Etebo, Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon, taking the total number on ground to thirteen (13) out of 25 players invited for the upcoming back-to-back clashes with Ghana.

Moses Simon was the last player to hit camp on Monday. The FC Nantes of France winger joined his compatriots some minutes to midnight.

Megasportsarena.com gathered that Akpeyi linked forces with Odion Jude Ighalo, Leon Aderemi Balogun, Semilogo Ajayi, Frank Ogochukwu Onyeka, William Troost-Ekong and Olaoluwa Aina, all of who landed earlier in the day.

The first five early birds were British-based quartet of Ajayi, Troost-Ekong, Onyeka and Balogun as well as Ola Aina from AS Torino of Italy, as they all settled down quickly for the team’s first training session on Monday evening.

Aina was left on the bench for Torino’s 1-0 loss at Genoa on Friday, Balogun played the last three minutes of Glasgow Rangers’ 2-1 win at Dundee, while Ajayi went the distance for West Brom at Bristol City.

On the other hand, Onyeka was an unused substitute versus Leicester City and Troost-Ekong was inactive with Watford due to the English FA Cup break, but they will all aim to be among the lot for Thursday’s trip to Kumasi, Ghana, while one will be dropped before the team flies out.

Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium will host the first leg this Friday, while the second fixture will hold at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, March 29 at 6pm.
