Watford of England attacker, Emmanuel Dennis Bonaventure was once again the top Nigerian player in the English Premier League on Saturday, as he notched two assists and a goal in his side’s amazing victory away to Alex Iwobi’s Everton, megasportsarena.com reports.
While Iwobi could only get to play the game as a second half substitute, Dennis ended up as man of the match, following which former Chelsea captain, Andy Townsend led the rain of accolades for the former Club Brugge of Belgium and FC Cologne of Germany attacker.
Townsend was reeling lyrical for Dennis, who also played as a substitute, but his brilliant goal and double assists helped Watford romp to a stunning 5-2 demolition of Iwobi’s side on Saturday afternoon at Goodison Park.
Dramatically, Dennis gained from an implosion by The Toffees, who were leading 2-1 but lost concentration and switched off, thereby conceding four goals in the last 13 minutes of the game, even with Iwobi then on the pitch.
Also part of the revival for The Hornets, who twice hit back from behind to seal the dramatic away win, was William Troost-Ekong, who made his ninth consecutive start for The Hornets, while Iwobi went on in the 77th minute for the hosts.
A minute to half-time, Troost-Ekong was booked for pushing an Everton player after a free-kick was awarded, and Dennis joined the center half in the book for a late challenge on Richarlison in the 70th minute.
Incidentally, Dennis had a chance to score a fourth goal for Watford but was denied by a brilliant save from Jordan Pickford, but he helped King finish from close range three minutes from time with a super pass, before adding more gloss to the scoreline in the first minute of stoppage time.
With his three goal involvements in Saturday’s game, Dennis, a summer signing from Club Brugge has now directly participated in three goals and three assists in nine games of the EPL, much to the awe of Townsend.
After getting off The Hornets’ bench to replace Ismaïla Sarr, Dennis made a huge impact on the game, setting up two of the goals scored by Joshua King and capped off a brilliant display with Watford’s fifth in the first minute of stoppage time.
After seeing the Super Eagles’ rookie wrap up scoring when he received a pass from João Pedro and slotted into the bottom corner, Townsend said: “Dennis finishes this one really well.
“He puts Seamus Coleman on the floor and then again puts the goalkeeper down to one side and rolls it into an empty net.
“An amazing turnaround. 2-1 down with 12-13 minutes to go and end up scoring five. Incredible.”
