Club Brugge of Belgium striker, David Chidozie Okereke has set his sight on a possible deal with VfB Stuttgart of Germany, who had a first fel of Nigerian talent with former Super Eagles’ attacker, Jonathan Akpoborie (Jonny).
Megasportsarena.com reports that memories of the days Akpoborie spent in Stuttgart may be long forgotten, with his surge to a European continental cup final to boot, but Okereke has been inspired to seek a deal with the German Bundesliga outfit.
The inspiration comes mostly from his desire for a new lease of life and revival for his career, following his inability to get a constant starting shirt with Brugge, after his bright start with the Belgian Jupiler League side went awry after he recovered from a bout with injury.
He has since been unable to play himself back into the good books of the club’s coach, Philippe Clement, under who he started only seven league games from a possible 40 in the past season, thereby marking a stark contrast to his initial value as Brugge’s record signing.
That was after the club paid eight million euro to sign him from Spezia of Italy, in a deal that could rise to ten million euro, but the 23-year-old lad is now thinking only of the exit door, due to lack of first-team opportunities.
Although Okereke has two years left on his contract with Brugge, the former under-23 national team, Olympic Eagles’ invitee has officially informed the club that he wants to leave during this summer transfer window.
Okereke’s sight is fully set on the arrival gate at Stuttgart, who officially approached Club Brugge with an offer for his signature in the winter transfer market and, though the Belgian League First Division A champions refused to do business back then, the youngster is hoping for a different outcome this time.
