Watford of England new signing, Dapo Mebude stole the show from under more celebrated Nigerian players, as he got a goal on an evening Isaac Success, Oghenekaro Etebo, Tom Dele-Bashiru and Emmanuel Dennis Bonaventure did not get into the spotlight, megasportsarena.com reports.
The Hornets have become the new ‘Naija Team’ of the English Premier League, following their acquisition of Bonaventure, Etebo and Mebude in the summer transfer window, thereby adding to the roster that had Success, Dele-Bashiru, Joseph Hungbo and Wiliam Troost-Ekong last season.
However, while the Nigerian lot that already play for the Super Eagles were expected to shine brighter, it was Mebude who stole the show on Sunday, as the former Glasgow Rangers of Scotland youngster hit target in his first game for The Hornets.
Indeed, Mebude opened his goals account for the English Premier League returnees in their 2-0 victory over Colchester United in the first of two 60-minute games at London Colney, with the Nigerian-born lad doubling the advantage in the 17th minute.
Mebude made hay when he sent a cross-shot into the bottom corner, few minutes after Watford earlier earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over Millwall in their first pre-season friendly and then defeated Colchester in the second match.
The Golden Boys announced the capture of the 19-year-old Scotland youth international nine days earlier and the club’s coach, Xisco Muñoz has been giving the lad useful tips since then, with a view to drafting him into the first team squad list, as he is classed as an U21 player.
