AFC Wimbledon of England youngster, Dapo Mebude was in action against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, but his efforts could not save The Dons from losing 3-0 away at Emirates Stadium, megasportsarena.com reports.
The London derby went The Gunners’ way with goals from Alexander Lacazette, Alan Smith-Rowe and Eddie Nketiah, who was replaced by Folarin Balogun with seven minutes left on the clock, while Mebude was in action for the last 30 minutes.
Before being replaced by Balogun, Nketiah’s superb, back-heeled flick helped Arsenal claim a 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon at the Emirates Stadium as they set up a Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Leeds United.
Arsenal’s Nigerian-born winger, Bukayo Saka also featured in the encounter, as he got off the bench late on, after which he combined with Lacazette to set up Smith Rowe for The Gunners’ second goal of the night.
Nketiah then caused Emirates Stadium to erupt in celebration for a third time with his ingenious finish, and Arsenal went close to extending their lead further in the closing stages, with Saka firing narrowly wide then got another effort saved by Wimbledon goalkeeper, Nik Tzanev.
Arsenal were made to wait to extend their lead, the League One visitors defending resolutely, but substitute Emile Smith Rowe finally turned home a loose ball before Nketiah’s moment of inspiration capped the victory.
Cedric Soares’s cut-back was slightly behind the striker but he quickly adjusted his feet to flick the ball beyond Tzanev and the win, which is Arsenal’s third in a row in all competitions, buoyed The Gunners’ mood ahead of their upcoming north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
Also in London on Wednesday, this time at Stamford Bridge, Carney Chukwuemeka featured as a substitute for Aston Villa against Chelsea, who advanced to the next round of the competition by winning 4-3 on penalties against The Villans.
It finished 1-1 after ninety minutes as Cameron Archer cancelled out Timo Werner’s opener and, three minutes before half-time, Chukwuemeka got off the visitors’ bench to replace the injured Morgan Sanson, but his older brother, Caleb, was an unused substitute on Villa’s bench.
