Villarreal of Spain attacker, Arnaut Danjuma has attracted summer transfer attention from Manchester United of England, following his breathtaking winner against Bayern Munich of Germany in the UEFA Champions League.
This comes at a point Danjuma has also been linked with Liverpool of England, while the world is still reeling in shock after The Yellow Submarine held unto his early goal to eke out a 1-0 win against the visiting Bavarians.
Megasportsarena.com reports that latest information out of Queensland is now showing the prospects of Danjuma joining Man U this summer, as The Red Devils’ scouts watched the Nigerian-born Dutch star against The Bavarians.
It could be a return to England for Lagos-born Danjuma, who previously played for Bournemouth in the English Premier League but moved on after he failed to save them from relegation two seasons ago.
The former Club Brugge of Belgium ace could, however, now be back in the English top-flight should reality come out of reports that Manchester United are interested in the Villarreal attacker.
This comes after Danjuma pounced in the first half at El Madrigal as the LaLiga side took a deserved 1-0 first-leg lead over the six-time European champions ahead of next week’s return in Munich.
It could have been worse for Bayern, who produced a disappointing display, as Villarreal had another effort ruled out for offside before they struck a post through Gerard Moreno.
The home side, backed by a vociferous crowd, made an excellent start and took an eighth-minute lead through Danjuma.
On-loan Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso cut the ball back into the area before Danjuma diverted Daniel Parejo’s shot into the bottom corner.
Spain defender Raul Albiol’s well-timed challenge on the edge of the box denied Serge Gnabry a scoring chance as Bayern looked to get a foothold in the game.
The German champions were relieved to see Pau Torres fail to connect with a flick-on from Parejo’s free-kick as Villarreal threatened again, but the game was eventually decided by Danjuma’s early goal alone.
It was the Dutch international’s sixth goal in the Champions League this season, pulling him level with Liverpool’s Mo Salah in the European elite clubs’ contest, and his 14th strike overall for Villarreal.
In the wake of the en counter, reports have emerged that United’s eagle-eyed scouts were in Spain on Wednesday night to see Danjuma give Villarreal their shock win over Bayern.
Danjuma will now hope to reap on multiple fronts, with a dream transfer to Old Trafford to the bargain, after his goal at Estadio de la Ceramica gave Villarreal a slender advantage going into the return leg next week.
However, a report by goal.com added that United’s EPL rivals, Liverpool are also interested in a deal for Danjuma, who has blossomed in Spain since moving from Bournemouth last year.
The report revealed: “Liverpool view Danjuma as a possible successor to Sadio Mane (who) could potentially leave Anfield for free in the summer of 2023.
“Blessed with incredible pace and skill, it is easy to see why Liverpool have compared Danjuma to Mane.
“The 25-year-old scored the winning goal in Villarreal’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
“Villarreal will be hoping Danjuma continues to impress in the competition so they can increase their asking price.”
