Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze has received a charge for more goals off his boots, as The Yellow Submarine’s gaffer, Unai Emery believes the Super Eagles’ kid is underachieving this season, megasportsarena.com reports.
Emery decided to hail and scold ‘Samu’ in one breath, after the product of Diamond Football Academy of Umuahia scored a brace that helped Villarreal climb to fifth on La Liga log, after his side pulled off a mammoth 5-1 thrashing of UD Levante.
The win was orchestrated by Chukwueze, who first scored in the 63rd minute and completed his brace in the 75th, thereby taking his total haul to three goals in LaLiga to equal his tally of last season.
Villarreal are now fifth and in the Europa League playoffs bracket after 31 rounds of matches and they are also in the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League, where they will face Emery’s former club, Arsenal of England.
The Gunners were, incidentally the team that first wanted to sign Chukwueze, after the now 21-year-old left-fotter romped to their highest on the goals scores’ log at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
He will surely hope to sparkle more against Arsenal later this month, especially with piercing words coming his way from Emery, who admitted he was excited with the lad’s performance but then charged him to score more.
Chukwueze, who netted five times in his debut La Liga season, has now scored three goals in 25 league games this season, but Emery told Villarreal’s website: “He’s a very young player who has to find consistency.
“We need to take steps forward with him and be demanding. He’s a footballer with great quality. He has a lot of talent, but he needs to improve in front of goal. He put in a great performance and managed to score.”
