Super Eagles’ defender, Chidozie Awaziem is back in Turkey and will prosecute this season on loan in the Turkish Super Lig with Alanyaspor, in a deal worth 5m euro, megasportsarena.com reports.
This is sequel to an agreement the former team of Kenneth Omeruo had with Awaziem’s parent club, Boavista of Portugal, which he joined in January from the Primera Liga rivals, FC Porto.
Boavista accepted a loan deal for the baby-faced defender, whose signing made him their most expensive player in history, but they had to send him out due to difficulties in meeting up with wages contained in his deal.
They consequently reached an agreement with the Alanya-based Turkish side to have the defender on a season long loan deal that was brokered by Italian agent, Antonio Gialloreto.
The former FC Nantes of France and KAA Gent of Belgium stopper signed his latest loan deal after he flew into Turkey aboard a private jet into the country where he had previously played for Rizespor during the 2018/19 season.
The move is yet again a loan deal for Awaziem, marking his fifth since moving to Europe, and it’ll run its course for just a season with no mandatory option to buy.
Awaziem left the Super Eagles’ camp in Cape Verde immediately after their 2-1 victory in the second game of their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign to complete the deal before the Turkish summer transfer window closed on Wednesday night.
The 24-year-old versatile defender, who excels as centre back, right-back or holding midfielder, could go straight into Super Lig action when Alanyaspor host Giresunspor on Monday.
Awaziem joins Angola’s Wilson Eduardo, and Senegal duo Khouma Babacar and Famara Diedhiou in Bulent Korkmaz’s team that are currently 13th in the table with three points from three matches.
He earlier played three Primeira Liga matches for Boavista and his arrival is expected to boost Alanyaspor’s backline after they lost two out of their three Super Lig matches so far this season.
His efforts will be boosted with an emotional send forth message from Boavista, which he joined on an initial loan for the 2020/21 season, which was later made into a permanent four-year deal at the end of the season until June 2025.
The Portuguese club stated in their farewell message: “Boavista FC informs that it has reached an agreement with Alanyaspor from Turkey for the temporary transfer of player, Chidozie Awaziem, valid until the end of the 2021-22 season.
“Boavista FC wishes Chidozie Awaziem all the best personal and professional happiness in this new stage of his career. Good luck, Chidozie.”
Awaziem, who played 16 matches during his loan spell at Rizespor in the second half of the 2018/19 season, disclosed his feelings i a post on social media, as he stated: “New chapter, let the battle begin @alanyaspor.
