Cameroon have added a number of interesting names to their squad list for their impending trip to Lagos for the maiden Aisha Buhari Invitational Football competition, ahead of which the head coach, Gabriel Zabo has invited 30 players to camp, megasportsarena.com reports.
The provisional list, which has only home-based professionals, includes four goalkeepers, 10 defenders, eight midfielders and eight forwards, with names like Zeh Manga, Berthe Abega, Alice Maffo, Raissa Nyangbang Adama and Alice Kameni standing out.
Zabo will hope to upstage the hosts’ team, Super Falcons and hope that The Indomitable Lionesses will return as winners of the highly-expected competition that is scheduled to run from 13th to 21st September at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
The Lionesses have been runners-up of the African Women Cup of Nations on four occasions, including the 2016 finals that Cameroon hosted, falling in the final hurdle when a late goal by Nigeria’s Desire Oparanozie ended their ambition at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaoundé.
The Lionesses, who are currently ranked number two in Africa (behind the Super Falcons) and 52nd in the world, made their debut appearance at the FIFA World Cup finals in Canada in 2015, and were also one of Africa’s flag-bearers at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in France.
