Calvin Bassey Set To Exit Rangers In Deal Worth Over £20m

Calvin Bassey is “set to leave” Rangers this summer for a fee of at least £20million, according to the London Evening Standard.

The newspaper reported that chief scout Andy Scoulding, who was pivotal in the £200,000 signing of Bassey, 22, in 2020, is set to join Tottenham’s recruitment team.

It is understood that the Gers are now set to land a massive profit on the former Leicester defender before the end of the summer transfer window.

Gers club can’t turn down an offer of over £20million for a player who started the 2021/22 season as a bench-warmer.

It’s no surprise to see teams take a liking to Bassey after well he performed for the Light Blues in the 2021/22 season.

The Nigeria international impressed as both a left-back and left-sided centre-back as he ended up forcing both Borna Barisic and Leon Balogun out of the side at times.

He was also vital in the Gers’ journey to the Europa League final and their success in the Scottish Cup.

It’s no wonder he’s now worth so much more – but which club is going to be paying over £20million for him?

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard was planning a raid on his former club to sign Bassey but that’s gone a bit quiet now that the big-spending Premier League club have landed Diego Carlos from Sevilla.

Still, Bassey can play at both left-back and centre-back so clubs could sign him for either cause if they come in with an offer for him this month.
