Rukh Brest of Belarus midfielder, David Tweh is the latest player to join Liberia’s camp ahead of their World Cup 2022 qualifier against Nigeria on Friday at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, megasportsarena.com reports.
The Liberian delegation had been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Tweh from his base in Eastern Europe, and it was with such relief that they welcomed the lad fondly called ‘Alcantara’ into their abode at Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island on Thursday.
Coach of the side, Peter Butler, who will try to pull off a historic away win against the Super Eagles on Friday, was obviously relieved to see ‘Alcantara,’ who romped into The Lone Star’s camp in a grey chartered cab from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
Butler’s squad for Friday’s game has three goalkeepers: Ashley Williams (RB Linense, Spain), Tommy Sango (LISCR) and Morlik Keita (Mighty Barrolle), as well as seven defenders that include Prince Balde (KF Drita, Kosovo) and Jeremy Saygbe (RB Linense, Spain).
Other defenders in the camp are the home-based quintet of Alvin Maccornel (Watanga), Sampson Dweh (LPRC Oilers), Daniel Paye (Bea Mountain), Teah Dennis (Monrovia Club Breweries) and Carlos Williams (Watanga).
They are joined by eight foreign-based midfielders: Abrahim Soumaoro (Paeek, Cyprus), Murphy Dorley (Slavia Prague, Czech Republic), Marcus Macauley (Sahab, Jordan), Terrence Tisdell (Kocaelispor, Turkey), Justin Salmon (Degerfor IF, Sweden), David Tweh (Rukh Brest, Belarus), Allen Njie (FC Aarau, Switzerland) and Abu Kamara (Makedonijagjp, North Macedonia)
Five overseas-based forwards complete the roll call, being Ayouba Kosiah (NAC Breda II, Netherlands), Kpah Sherman (Kedah Darul Aman, Malaysia), Mohammed Kamara (Hatayspor, Turkey), Peter Wilson (Olympiakos Nicosia, Cyprus) and Van-Dave Harmon (FC Laçi, Albania).
Tweh enthused that he and his colleagues will be able to hold their own gallantly to pull off a shock result against their hosts, as he noted that the spirit among them at their camp abode is high and full of great expectations.
“We have a very young team. Few players in the current team came from the youth levels and we are eager to make a change in our football history.
“We do not just want to play and retire at the end of our careers. We want to leave a mark in Liberian football history. We want to make a change.
“With help of God, we have many years to play. We are young and we have learned from the mistakes,” the 22-year-old dreadlocks-wearing midfielder recently told cafonline.com.
