Former Akwa United of Uyo midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf has sealed a summer transfer worth 1.5m euro from IFK Goteborg of Sweden to Royal Antwerp of Belgium, megasportsarena.com reports.
The deal comes after Goteborg agreed to terminate Yusuf’s contract before its expiration date, as they opted to make the youngster available in exchange for Antwerp’s cash.
This has been revealed in a report by Swedish newspaper, Goteborg Posten, which quoted Italian transfer market expert, Fabrizio Romano stating that Antwerp have reached an agreement with the Allsvenskan outfit for Yusuf’s signature.
The 20-year-old box-to-box schemer now joins the club that has a long tradition of Nigerian players in their teams, dating back to the days of Jason Adesanya, Dominic Iorfa, Bimbo Fatokun, Tosin Dosunmu and Funso Ojo.
Yusuf leaves Goteborg after making 76 appearances in all competitions and with two goals, but will hope for an even better impact at Antwerp, who will compete in the UEFA Europa League play-offs, by virtue of finishing third in the Belgian Pro League last season.
The deal also puts a halt to speculation linking Glasgow Rangers of Scotland and Brentford of England with Yusuf, who recently switched agents from Patrick Mork’s Global Soccer Management to David Manasseh at Stellar Group.
The former FC Hearts of Abuja youngster, who is fondly called ‘Hasse’ by his pals, was also linked to Club Brugge of Belgium as well as Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United of England, even with a year still left to run on his contract in Sweden.
However, he has snubbed all offers from England and Scotland, as Romano tweeted: “Nigerian midfielder Alhassan Yusuf will join Royal Antwerp in Belgium. Done deal and agreement reached for 1.5 Million Euros to Goteborg.”
