Real Madrid of Spain summer signing, David Olatokunbo Alaba has admitted he is still holding lots of nostalgia over the 13 years he spent with Bayern Munich of Germany, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although he admitted that his final months with The Bavarians were mired in stormy waters, as he appeared to lose favour with the coach, the left-back, who was born in Austria to a Nigerian father and mother from Philippines, said he forever remains grateful of his days at Allianz Arena.
He, however, the enterprising star conceded that his loyalty for now has to be with Real Madrid, where he was recently unveiled officially and blamed by Bayern fans for kissing his new club’s badge.
In response, Alaba, who has been successful as an Austrian international and captain, explained that kissing Madrid’s badge during his signing ceremony was apt for the situation he has now found himself as one of Los Blancos’ players for the current season.
Alaba acknowledged that the gesture upset many Bayern supporters but parried any mockery on his part and told BILD: “It doesn’t mean that I no longer love Bayern.
“It was just a very special day for me. It was the beginning of a new stage, but I didn’t want to provoke the Bayern fans at all, where I spent thirteen wonderful years.
“I will always be grateful to the fans and the club for giving me the opportunity to develop as a person and a player. Munich became my second case. I did not want to hurt sensibilities.
“The work with him is fantastic. In Munich we already had a very good relationship and the enthusiasm he transmits in each training session has not changed.”
