West Ham United’s interest in Taiwo Awoniyi has been played down by his agent amid claims that the Union Berlin striker is a wanted man, Megasportsarena.com reports.
Awoniyi may be a familiar name to some having been on the Liverpool books for a number of years.
The Nigerian striker joined Liverpool back in 2015 but work permit issues meant he never made his competitive debut for the Reds.
Awoniyi was farmed out on loan seven times before finally leaving permanently last summer, joining Union Berlin.
That move has been perfect for Awoniyi as he has racked up 15 goals in 31 Bundesliga games this season – sparking interest in his signature.
Reports suggested that, West Ham were battling Newcastle United in the race to sign Awoniyi and that there is a €20million (£17million) release clause in Awoniyi’s contract that could be activated this summer.
However, it sounds like a move to West Ham isn’t exactly in the pipeline as things stand.
Liverpool have a 10% sell-on clause on Awoniyi so they will be very interested in any potential summer sale.
